His service in Military |
* At the age of 25 he got selected in the Indian army.
* He got trained at Aurangabad and started his career in the Indian army as a driver (1963).
* He survived the Indo-Pakistani war and bullet passed by his head (1965).
* At the age of 38, he survived a road accident while driving and at that particular moment he took an oath to dedicate his life to the service of humanity.
* In 1975, he left the army.

Services for his village |
* Contributed in the development and structuring of Ralegan Siddhi (his native place) and establishing it as a model village.
* Organised the youth of the village into an organisation named the 'Tarun Mandal' (Youth Association) and they took the issue of alcholism.
* Approched the government frequently to ban liquor in the village.
* After long struggle, government decided to ban the sale of tobacco, cigarettes, and beedies in the village (2009).
* Reinforced the normative principles equity, efficiency, sustainability and people's participation in the village for human development.
* Along with the youth association started a pre-school and a high school in 1979.
* Motivated and inspired the villagers with his moral leadership to remove untouchability and discrimination against the Dalits.

* He initiated a Satyagraha movement (2011) for passing a stronger anti-corruption 'Lokpal' bill in the Indian Parliament.
* Started his fast unto death on 5 April 2011 in Delhi to press for the demand of a stronger anti-corruption bill and more independence to the Lokpal and Lokayuktas.
* Protests spread to Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Shillong, Aizawl and a number of other cities in India.
* Ended his fast on 9 April 2011.

* He father was an unskilled labourer in Ayurveda Ashram Pharmacy.
* His aunt looked after him and his education and took young him to Mumbai.
* He studied up to the seventh standard in Mumbai.
* He started his career by selling flowers at Dadar.
* While he was in army, he used to read books of Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave.
* He lives in a 10ft x 10ft spartan room attached to the Yadavbaba temple in Ralegan Siddhi village, Ahmednagar.
