* He did not finish school and started to paint cinema hoardings to become an artist and support the family.
* He was seventeen when he moved to Mumbai.
* He used to travel to Baroda, Surat, and Ahmedabad to paint landscapes.
* In 1944, he worked in the Fantasy toy factory which proved to be the best paying job, where he was engaged in designing and building fretwork toys.

* Joined the Progressive Artists' Group, founded by Francis Newton Souza, in 1947.
* He was noticed for the first time in 1947 when he won an award at the annual exhibition of the Bombay Art Society.
* Became the secretary of PAG in 1949.
* Between 1948 -1950, a series of exhibitions of M.F. Husain’s paintings travelled all over India.
* He is claimed to have painted about 60,000 paintings in various topics.
* His 'Battle of Ganga and Jamuna: Mahabharata 12' successfully fetched $ 1.6 million in 2008, a world record.
* His untitled work in Christie’s fetched $2 million in 2006.
* The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) (USA, Massachusetts) showed a solo exhibition of his paintings from 4 November 2006 to 3 June 2007.
