Nila
caught up with the heart-throb of Tamil cinema today - Madhavan,
who was in London for Cee(I) TV's Madhavan, You and London. Though
the acquaintance was short, we could sense his sincerity, honesty, dedication,
a sense of responsibility, eagerness to help the downtrodden and love
for his wife, which was conspicuous from the way he spoke to us.
Nila
: How would you like your career profile to be?
Madhavan : Absolutely no plans now, except making money.
Nila :
Don't you ever have dreams of bagging national awards, Oscars and making
it to the big-stage ?
Madhavan : No…every successful movie gives me the satisfaction
of all these awards and that makes me feels great.
Nila :
What do you think that has brought you so many fans and how’re they
attracted to you ?
Madhavan : I think sincerity is my greatest asset and that has
brought me close to so many loving hearts. My fans feel that my smile,
looks, height and personality impress them a lot.
Nila :
What do you think is your weakness?
Madhavan : Honesty
Nila :
What do you think you love and hate in the film industry?
Madhavan : What I love is that, I can work with a variety of
people and play a wide- range of roles everyday. I can be an army officer,
a beggar and a romantic lover singing and dancing to the tunes of my
love, all on the same day. What I hate is that it is all too temporary
and gets over within a short period.
Nila : Which according to you is
the most difficult role in film making?
Madhavan : Undoubtedly, it is the Direction
Nila :
The most difficult scene you've done so far, in which u sweated it to
the maximum ?
Madhavan : The last scene in 'Alaipayuthey' was the most difficult
for me to perform.
Nila :
What’s the scene you cherish the most and the one that you would like
to watch over and over again?
Madhavan : The chinese restaurant scene in Minnale.
Nila :
What according to you, should a common man do to become a celebrity?
Madhavan : He should not thrive to be a celebrity. He should
just keep doing his job, without great expectations. When someone wants
to become a celebrity, he tends to lose his sincerity in what he does
and gets diverted.
Nila :
What are you going to contribute to the Tamil society, which was solely
responsible in making you an icon on the silver-screen ?
Madhavan : I have to do lots. I can't do it now because it will
be too primitive and premature. I do not like to limit my contributions
to the Tamilians in Tamilnadu alone but I would rather like to serve
the entire Tamil community all throughout India, once I feel that I
am ready.
Nila
: Well... that’s really nice…Even our prime motive is linking the Tamil
community together. Madhavan has a number of fans after him. Can you
name a fan, whom you are after?
Madhavan : My wife.
Nila :
If given an opportunity, whom would you like to interview and why?
Madhavan : It would be Mel Gibson. I have always wondered how
he has been the most good looking man for years and married to the only
lady for 20 long years, without any gossips, when living in a place
like Hollywood.
Nila : We wish that after 20 years
we'll ask you the same question… What is the secret of your romantic,
heart-stealing smile that has made thousands to go sleepless ?
Madhavan : I smile deep from my heart and that’s it.
Nila :
What is the biggest lesson that you have learnt in your life?
Madhavan : My parents taught me two rules to follow when I was
young. Do not hurt anyone intentionally and do not cheat anyone even
for a single rupee. I have been following these sincerely right throughout
my life.
Nila :
Who has been the greatest inspiration in your life ?
Madhavan : Mel Gibson - He has come through very tough times
in his life. In history, Alexander the Great, has been my greatest inspiration.
Though he died at the young age of 33, he had conquered almost the whole
world, by that time.
Nila :
If God gives you the power to recreate yourself, what would you do?
Madhavan : I just love to be like this, the same Madhavan. I
am extremely happy now. I don't know what to pray for from God, as I
can’t ask for more than what I have now. I wish I continue to live this
way.
Nila :
Have you ever been frustrated over anything in life?
Madhavan : Yes…over petty quarrels
Nila :
What do you hate to do?
Madhavan : I hate to be doing nothing
Nila : Out of comedy, action, romantic
and serious roles, which do you think will suit you better, as of now?
Madhavan : Comedy will suit me much better . The degree of suitability
will be in the same order as in your question.
Nila :
To whom would you like to dedicate your success to?
Madhavan : God, my parents and my wife, for they’ve been always
on my side.
Nila :
How would you define Madhavan's character in a single word?
Madhavan : Paithiyakkaran
Nila :
We know that you had been a faculty in personality development programmes.
Have you ever been dumb-founded and spell-bounded?
Madhavan : Yes. Yesterday in the DumDumDum Premiere. The response
was overwhelming and unprecedented. They never let me talk anything.
It was really a great feeling to be there.
Nila :
How many movies have you signed up as of now?
Madhavan : I am doing Minnale in Hindi. Parthale Paravasam with
K.Balachandar and I’ve also signed up for Maniratnam's next movie.
Nila
: We heard that you are getting offers from Hollywood. What sort of
roles are they and what’re your plans about it ?
Madhavan : Yeah. I am getting lots of offers from Hollywood.
As they are in the preliminary stages of discussion, I can't talk about
them right now.
Nila :
Before making it to the big-screen, you had wanted to join the army
and serve the country. Now that you are a matinee idol, do you have
any plans to serve the country by involving yourself in active politics?
Madhavan : No. Certainly not now.
Nila :
Does this mean that you may consider it later?
Madhavan : We never know what life has in store for us. So I
am not so sure about that.
Nila :
Do you have any unfulfilled desires?
Madhavan : As I told you I can't ask for anything more from the
Almighty. As a boy, I’ve always wanted to travel a lot. Today, I am
a globe-trotter and I’ve visited all the countries except China. Now,
people all over the world recognize me and everything is fine.
Nila :
Which is your favourite country ?
Madhavan : Canada
Nila : After having visited so many
countries, given an option where would you like to live?
Madhavan : In India, of course.
Nila :
How did the failure of Ennavale affect you?
Madhavan : To say the truth, it did not affect me at all. After
Ennavale, Minnale was a super-duper box-office hit and now DumDumDum
is doing exceptionally well. I think I am back with a bang and am on
the right track.
Nila :
What’s your happiest moment in life?
Madhavan : I enjoy each and every moment of my life and all days
are happy for me.
