A
love story with a sane ending that will gladden the hearts of
those struck by Cupid's arrow, Sri Surya Movies' ``Ananda Mazhai''
has well written songs by Vasan, tuned in by Deva. Young, debutant
director Karunakaran, from Devakottai displays the capacity to
structure the love yarn with a good blend of drama of hearts with
lighter moments.
Born in an educated family, Balu (Kalyan) struggles to complete
his degree though he is a good cricketer. His parents (Venkatesan
and Sangeetha) are naturally cut up, the father rebuking him often.
Balu has an understanding sister in Priya (TV star Vasuki making
her debut), and his band of friends, who support him. He falls
in love with Anu (Keerti Reddy), a U.S. educated girl with an
ambition to complete her Ph.D. there. The girl is fascinated by
his good Samaritan acts. The events the director has envisaged
for these developments, with song and dance sequences in between,
are plausible
A miraculous escape from a car accident involving both brings
the two families together. Balu does not have courage to confess
his love for Anu.But Anu realizes her love for Balu at the airport
when she leaves for her higher education. The final send off at
the airport is well-done with both resolving to work towards their
targets.
Kalyan emotes fairly well, dances gracefully and fights like his
elder brother. Keerthi is all poise and understanding. Vasuki
makes an impressive debut. Nagesh as the understanding uncle of
Balu cuts a nice figure with this experienced essay.
Maheeder's cinematography is top class particularly in the song
sequence at the Taj Mahal setting at Mahabalipuram .
