Language: English
Story Line:
Teenager Jess dreams of playing football like David Beckham. But
being an Indian girl, her family don't ever agree with her doing
that. Jess does not give up.She plays for Hounslow Harriers, a
local girls team wihout her parents' knowledge. The captain Jules
and Jess become very good friends.Misunderstanding creeps in when
they both fancy their coach Joe. The story revolves around Jess's
family and their reactions when they come across her football
match and her affair with the coach.
Analysis: Director
has done a commendable job with the script. Every second generation
Indian living abroad would be able to relate herself/himself to
Jess as the clash between traditional value and the morden life
style has always been an issue in every NRI family.
Director has definitely
succedded in entertaining both Asian and British community by
carefully blending their obsessions - marriage and football.
The dialogues are
very practical and hilarious.
Parminder Nagra has
put up an excellent performance as Jess.
Fortunately(for Indians)or
unfortunately(for British), the length of the movie is comparable
to any Bollywood movie.
Super scene:
When readying herself for a vital free-kick, Jess sees the wall
of defenders as her relatives in typical indian costumes, all
desperately trying to put her off(As seen in the title picture). What
an anology!
Verdict:
It is impossible not to like the film.Don't miss!
