Music: Yuvan
Shankar Raja
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar, Kabilan,
Yugabharathi
Direction: Ezhil
Producer: Lingusamy
Ezhil who has got hit flicks like
“Thullaadha mananum thullum”,
“Poovellaam un vaasam” to his credit,
is back with Deepavali. This is
Lingusamy’s maiden production and has
music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Ezhil is
known for extracting wonderful songs
from the music directors he had worked
with in his previous films. Here too,
he has inspired Yuvan to come out with
brilliant songs.
Dhol baje - KK and Swetha
Though begins with Hindi words, this
song has got notable lyrics by Na.
Muthukumar. A peppy number with
interesting flow of the tune, making
it worth listening. Percussions do not
drown the words and in spite of being
a dance number, it is heartening that
the lyrics can be easily made out.
Kaadhal vaithu- Vijay Yesudoss
Yet another scintillating melody
number and highly addictive stuff from
the Vijay Yesudoss -Yuvan combo. Na.
Muthukumar's stamp is all over the
song and particularly the line "Sirithaal
isai arindhen; nadandhaal dhisai
arindhen" is impressive. If it was
Ilaiyaraja and K.J.Yesudoss combo that
rocked in 80s and 90s, now it’s the
turn of the heirs. This song strongly
competes with "Pogadhey" to be the
pick of the album. The tune is
mesmerizing and sure to hit the
charts.
Kannan varum - Anuradha Sriram and
Madhushree
Kannan varum starts with an
interesting humming and the tune flows
casually and instantly catchy with
foot-tapping rhythm. Madhushree's
Tamil pronunciation needs to be
improved and Anuradha Sriram's voice
lift the song to new heights by her
casual and effortless rendering. It
will be better if she concentrates
more on diction and avoids
closed-mouth singing. The Dhandiya
beats in the background sound like
techno-stuff. Hope the feminists do
not stir up any controversies against
the lines "aan vaasam thotidaatha
dhegam ooname" by Yugabharathi
Pogaadhey – Yuvan
With eyes closed one can say from the
mood of the song, that it is an
emotional song by a love-lorn guy.
Starting with soul stirring piano and
rendering by Yuvan, displaying the
pain and emotions, make this song a
special one and of course pick of the
album.
Yuvan's singing has improved a lot and
only he can give justice to such a
beautiful song. The second interlude
is worth a mention, which lifts the
listener above the clouds and leave
there to float in zero gravity. Na.
Muthukumar's lyrics gel with the
situation and sure to win the hearts
of youth. People who had fallen in
love are sure to fall in love with
this song.
Thoduven - Haricharan and Maaya
Though with strong flavours of a
typical Rahman's song, "Thoduven" is
refreshing in Haricharan and Maaya's
voice. Charanam part is more catchier
and enjoyable than the pallavi.
Kabilan has given wonderful lyrics as
usual. This song is picturised in
scorching streets of Yemen.
Verdict:
Complete variety album from Yuvan
after a brief period of eclipse. It is
a relief that this Yuvan’s album is
without any remix versions.
