Director:
Venkat Prabhu
Music:
Yuvan Shankar Raja
Lyrics:
Vaali, Gangai amaran and Yuvan
Shankar Raja

Though
directed by a debutant with a bunch of new
faces in the lead, Chennai-600028 is
creating waves among the youngsters. The
major credit goes to Yuvan Shankar Raja, the
heartthrob of youngsters. He knows the pulse
and tastes of youngsters and has delivered
the music, exactly the way they like.
Ulla vaa -
Yuvan shankar raja, DJ Sathya and silveSTAR
With worldcup
2007 around the corner, driving the fans
frenzy, lyrics that goes like "World cup
jeyikka porom, kai kodukka ulla vaa" is sure
to win the hearts of youngsters. Rap
portions by DJ Sathya and silveSTAR are
interesting and stylish. Yuvan definitely
needs to improve his vocal cords or leave
the singing task to another singer. Vaali
has given some funky and funny lyrics in par
with the latest trend and of course suiting
this movie.
Un Paarvai
- Vijay Yesudoss
Yuvan usually
reserves songs with potential for becoming
hit, for Vijay. "Un paarvai" with
scintillating rhythm and flawless rendering
by Vijay Yesudoss is a decent melody number
with a tune flowing like a meandering river.
The effectual orchestration has lit the
light throughout the song. Vaali has penned
the lyrics.
Yaaro (Love)
S.P.
Balasubramaniam, Chitra
It had been
ages since we heard a duet by S.P.B and
Chitra. Yaaro is a psychedelic number,
enhanced and improvised by decades of
experience by the stalwarts. The song has
commendable lyrics by Vaali and is instantly
catchy and addictive with differently set
rhythm.
Jalsa - Ranjith,
Tippu, PremGi,Karthik, Haricharan
Yuvan has
experimented a new version of gaana song
with heavy inspiration of the classic
“Senthamil then mozhiyaal”. The song takes
multiple listenings to get into the
listener. The director has got the lyrics
from his father. The lyrics are funny at
places but Gangai Amaran could have avoided
a few meaningless words, though they are
common in youth’s vocabulary.
Oh! Oh!
– Anoushka
Unconventional
song of the album, set in a slow pace with
stylish rendering by Anoushka. Anoushka
literally grates the Tamil lyrics of Vaali,
which could have been taken care of. Would
have hit the charts if the length was cut
short and made more interesting.
Natpukulle
- Yuvan shankar raja
This is Yuvan
Shankar Raja’s debut in penning lyrics and
undoubtedly he has done a good job compared
to the junk some lyricists churn out
nowadays. This bit song has wonderful
strings and it is all about friendship and
the pain in parting a friend. Yuvan has
written, composed and sung the song.
Jalsa Remix -
Sabesh, Gana Ulaganathan, Gana Pazhani,
Karunas, PremGi
PremGi has
tried his hand in remixing the “Jalsa” song
with a band of Gaana bigshots. Strongly
reminds of his previous remix ventures. The
singing part is well taken care of by the
gaana specialists.
Yaaro (Friendship)-
S.P.Charan and Venkat Prabu
The producers
of the film have lent their voices for the
apt friendship song. It is in the same tune
as the “Yaaro” song that is about love. The
prelude is wonderful and is definitely worth
a mention. Vaali’s lyrics go on listing out
the greatness of friendship. He could have
avoided usage of English words in the song.
Saroja -
Shankar Mahadevan and PremGi
Yuvan is in
form in setting tune for such energetic
dance numbers. “Saroja” will make the
listener shake his leg involuntarily. Veena
is used throughout this fast paced song.
Though it is not a new trend, it is
interesting to note the veena blending well
with the mood of such dance number. A
perfect “Kuthu” song with peppy rendering by
Shankar Mahadevan and PremGi. Though the
song has shades of previous songs of Yuvan,
the racy beats are sure to reach the youth.
Gangai Amaran has again come out with some
pedestrian lyrics.
The Chennai
600028 team had effective promotional
media partners and following aggressive
marketing strategies, a lot of hype was
created for the movie and its music. Though
the songs do not reach the expectations, a
good effort from the young team.
