Music:
Vidyasagar
Lyrics:
Vairamuthu
Direction:
Radha mohan
Prakash Raj
is one of the few actors who invest,
what they earn, in cinema, rather than
erecting marriage halls and shopping
complexes. Not worrying about odds, he
encourages new and young talents by
producing movies under his "Duet movies"
banner. “Mozhi” is one such production,
directed by Radha Mohan with star cast of
Jothika, Prithviraj, Prakashraj and
Swarnamalya.
Vidyasagar,
who is strong in melodies, has come out with
an extraordinary score and the songs stand
out, in this ear-jarring-music trend.
En Jannalil
Therivadhu - Karthik
A bit song,
not even a bit boring. A stylish and funky
song enhanced and decorated by Karthik's
voice, making the listener yearn for some
more lines.
Kannal Pesum Penne -
S.P. Balasubramaniam
By director's
request or his own decision, Vidyasagar has
re-used his Malayalam super hit tune here.
Listening to S.P. Balasubramiam's voice
after a long time gives the feeling of
meeting an old friend after a long gap.
S.P.B's voice is still in form and has
refused to age along with him. The song is
backed by toe-tapping rhythm and beautiful
orchestration. Vairamuthu's pen has danced
all over leaving his stamp all over.
Pesa Madandhaiye
- Madhu Balakrishnan
Vidyasagar
must have fallen in love with Madhu
Balakrishnan’s K.J.Yesudas-like- magical
voice that he gets a chance to sing in all
his projects. Madhu keeps up his magic and
his voice is in his complete control
reaching high octaves easily. "Pesa
madandhaiye", a pathos song that aptly
portrays a lover in agony when his ladylove
rejects his proposal. Such situation is a
piece of cake for the seasoned lyricist like
Vairamuthu and he has come out with
wonderful lyrics.
Sevvanam Selaikatti
- Jassie Gift
Vidyasagar has
come up with a melody based song for the
only situation where a fast paced dance
number would have been filled in by other
music directors. With slight favour of
Malayalam music, possibly by Jassie gift’s
accent, the song is worth listening.
Kaatrin Mozhiye
: Sujatha
Kaatrin
mozhiye = Soul stirring prelude + enchanting
tune +impressive rendering by Sujatha + mind
blowing interludes + poetic and meaningful
lyrics by Vairamuthu. Like a refreshing
shower in hot scorching summer, this song is
a musical treat and relief for melody
lovers. With Raja not signing many films
nowadays, Vidyasagar promptly tries to fill
his place by churning out such soulful
melodies.
Kaatrin Mozhiye
- Balram
Balram is one
of the underrated singers in Tamil, whose
voice brings back nostalgic memories of
P.B.Sreenivas's classics. His pronunciation
with stress for each word is commendable as
most of the singers these days practice
closed mouth singing. Balram's version of "Kaatrin
mozhiye" competes with Sujatha's version and
we end up in a tiebreaker.
Mouname Unnidam
- Srinivas
Srinivas takes
over the song right away without any
prelude. A short ‘n sweet song with
mesmerizing melodious tune and meaningful
poetic lyrics competing with each other.
Unusually Srinivas's rendering lacks clarity
and yet it stands out by the readily
hummable tune.
Aazha Kannaal -
Tippu
Another bit
song, slightly resembling a song from "Chathurangam"
which was also composed by Vidyasagar.
Tippu's pronunciation is odd and muffled.
Vidyasagar has garnished the already catchy
tune with piano and whistle sound.
Melody lovers
can give a standing ovation to Vidyasagar
for this musical treat, which is soothing to
listen. Hats off to
Radhamohan-Prakashraj-Vairamuthu team,
whose hard work and involvement is obvious
in each and every song.
