Pallikoodam - Music Review
Music: Bharadwaj
Lyrics: Snehan, Na. Muthukumar, Viveka, Gana
Ulaganathan
Direction: Thankar Bachchan
Thankar Bachaan, is a known hardcore fan and
a devotee of Ilaiyaraja. Three of his
earlier flicks had Raja’s music and "Thendral"
had score by Vidyasagar. Now he has roped in
Bharadwaj for his fifth directorial venture
"Pallikoodam", featuring Naren & Sneha in
lead roles.
School is a place where major portion of our
childhood is spent and each one of us
carries tons of memories of our school days.
Looking at the promos, it seems like he is
back to the style of Azhagi, bringing back
nostalgic moments of one’s childhood. Even
the songs convey the theme and mood of
school days.
Meendum Pallikku:
Unlike a few music directors who always
have at least one song per album in their
voices, Bharadwaj rarely lends his voice.
Both his "Avaraval vaazhkaiyil" and "Gnabagam
varudhe" songs were nostalgia-feel songs.
His recent "Meendum Pallikku" is in the
league of the aforementioned songs, with the
sounds of school bell, thamizhthaai vaazhthu
and the students reciting Tamil verses add
to the feel of sitting in a classroom.
Snehan has given some memories-evoking lines
and Bharadwaj has done justice to them by
his flawless rendering and soul-stirring
interludes.
Indha nimidam:
Starts with the ticking sound of a clock
as the rhythm and the tune slowly gains
tempo. A nice melodious song set in Carnatic
base with Bharadwaj’s trademark style of
wonderful yet simple orchestration.
Bharadwaj seems to have a special liking for
Sreenivas and always reserves the best for
him. And in turn, Sreenivas has given his
best for this song, along with help of
Janani. Na. Muthukumar is the right choice
for penning lyrics for such a romantic
situation.
Rose Mary:
The remix bug has bitten Bharadwaj too
it seems and the MGR’s "Naanamo" is being
remixed with new lyrics and modern style
music. Gaana ulaganathan has come out with
pedestrian lyrics and has done justice to
the singing part along with Suchitra.
Manasu Marugudhey:
Subiksha and Narayanan have done a
wonderful job in this melodious duet song.
Bharadwaj is definitely in form and he has
showcased his composing talents through the
beautiful interludes. The choice and usage
of instruments have Bharadwaj’s stamp all
over and this melody number with Thenmozhi’s
lyrics is definitely an addictive song.
Kaadu padhungurome:
Abaswaram Ramji’s bunch of musical
prodigies "Isai Mazhalai" have been used for
the situational song whereby the kids are
reluctant to go to school and list out why
they hate going to school. Since the lyrics
by Viveka, speak the minds of the children
and the peppy number set in folkish style,
it is sure to steal the children’s hearts.
9 manikku:
Another bit song by the Isai
mazhailaigal set with toe-tapping rhythm and
a racy tune.
"Pallikoodam" is a must-buy for music fans
who have been longing for soothing melodies
in this period of ear-splitting percussion
dominated music. Thankar has more
responsibility in enhancing the songs with
effective picturisation.
