Like Ilayaraja-Bharathiraja, Rehman-Maniratnam, Vidhyasagar-Dharani combination, Yuvan Shankar Raja- Selvaragavan combination has once again proved to be a successful combination. Yuvan’s recent films “Aethiri” and “Perazhagan” had only average songs. But here in 7G Rainbow colony, he has taken giant leap and the songs are sure to hit the charts and keep you enchanted.

Naam Vayadhukku Vandhom (7.5/10)- Unnikrishnan, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Shalini and Ganga – If “Kanmunnae” song from Thulluvatho Ilamai was sung by teenagers, this is by post-teenaged youth, but the situation is the same. Tune of Shalini’s part reminds of “oru ponnu onnu” song from “Kushi”. Having toe-tapping rhythm and lyrics sprinkled with words like “figure”,”cigarette”,”Feb14” which are all closely associated with younger generation, it will be liked by the youngsters.

Kan pesum (8.5/10)- Karthik- Wonderful lyrics+catchy tune+soul stirring rendition all make this song a sure chartbuster. Karthik brings about the pain of love very well through his voice. The second interlude is worth mentioning where Naveen’s flute creates waves in the hearts of listeners. Each charanam is set in a different tune.

Kanaa kaanum(8.5/10)- Harish Ragavendra and Madhumitha- Beginning with a haunting sarngi bit, the song is an awe-inspiring, sure to be hit one. Madhumitha sounds great and Harish also has done a good job. Interlude with Ustaad ali khan’s voice and the second interlude with complicated orchestration clearly points out the maturity in Yuvan’s composition. Hats off to Na.Muthukumar for the notable lyrics.

Ninaithu ninaithu(9/10)- Shreya Goshal- The song opens with Yuvan-styled Piano bit and the song is sure to bring nostalgic feelings in people who are/were in love. Set in a different hindustani base, this beautiful melody is going to steal many hearts. Shreya’s pronunciation at some places should have been corrected to save Tamil. The same song features again in KK’s voice with slightly modified lyrics.

Idhu Poarkalamaa(8/10)- Harish Ragavendra –A bit song which makes the listener yearn it to be played for some more time. Too much of electronic sounds jarr the eardrums and still the song’s pace and Harish’s emotional rendition are the saviours of the song.

January (7/10)- Mathangi and Kunal- Why should Yuvan copy and paste Michael Jackson’s beats when he himself is so creative? The song is fine, set in a fast tempo with throaty rendition by the singers. Listening to the lyrics one begins to wonder, how Selvaragavan would have picturised this song and how it is going to escape censor’s scissors.

Apart from these songs there are two music bits composed by Yuvan- “Music of Joy” and “Walking through the rainbow”. “Music of Joy” begins with a short verses by Harish and then the music takes off, soaring high and high. “Walking through the rainbow” is the theme music of the film and at places it resembles the theme music of “Johny”.

Overall it is an excellent “Must-Buy album with addictive songs. Yuvan has given a more matured kind of music. Lyrics by Na.Muthukumar in every song are consistent and go hand in hand well with the situation and tune of the song . Many bits of interludes and tunes strongly resemble some of other music director’s compositions. Yuvan should strictly avoid this in future.
