UNICODE FONT HELP
FOR NILACHARAL READERS
FAQs

1. Can you tell me the name of the font Nilacharal uses for its web pages?

Nilacharal is using 'TheneeUni' Unicode font for web pages and ‘TSC_Avarangal’ for archived index pages. Old pages are in TSc avarangal & Latha fonts.

2. Do I need to install any of the fonts to view Nilacharal?

No. Since we are using dynamic fonts they will be automatically downloaded to enable you to view the fonts clearly while browsing through our website.

3. What browsers do I need to view Unicode Tamil WebPages?

  • If you are running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 and you are using either of the following browsers:

    • Internet Explorer version 5.0 and later versions

    • Opera version 6.0 and later

    • Mozilla Firefox version 1.0.5 and later

    • Netscape Navigator version 4.5 or a later version, but not version 6.0 (Netscape 6.0 does not support dynamic fonts. If you use Netscape 6, you have to download the Tamil font.)

  • If you are running MacOS, you are using Netscape Navigator 4.5 or later (but not version 6)

  • If you are running Linux, you are running Netscape Navigator version 4.5 or later (but not version 6).

4. I am using the above said browsers and platforms. But still I’m unable to view your site. What can I do?

Make sure whether you are using correct encoding format. To do this,

(a) In Internet Explorer
Click on View menu >> Encoding >> More >> Unicode (UTF-8)
(b) In Opera
Click on View menu >> Encoding >> Unicode >> UTF-8
(c) In Mozilla Firefox,
Click on View menu >> Character Encoding >> Unicode (UTF-8).
(d) In Netscape Navigator,
Click on View menu >> Character Encoding >> More Encoding >> Unicode >> Unicode (UTF-8).

5. I have done all these. Yet, I am unable to view the pages. What do I do?

Installing TSC_avarangal, Latha & TheneeUni fonts might solve your problem.
You can download the fonts from here:
TSC avarangal font
Latha font
TheneeUni font
TheneeUniTx font

 6. Even after installing the fonts, pages are not readable in browsers other than Internet Explorer. Is there any other steps to follow?

  • Click "languages" tab in the dialog box

  • Check "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)".
