Australian National Maritime Museum (Exhibition)

The National Maritime Museum charts the history of seafaring
in the southern Pacific through displays of ships and artefacts,
with sections devoted to exploration, immigration and the
early convict settlers. Open daily: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Museum of Contemporary Arts (Exhibition)

One of the city's most exciting museums, housed in a striking
Art Deco building on the harbour, the collection contains
a range of art forms from sculpture and painting to film
and video, by both international and Australian Aboriginal
artists. Open daily: 10:00am to 5:00pm
Royal Botanic Garden (Scenic)
East of Queen's Square, Sydney
One of the city's most popular green spaces with both residents
and visitors, the 24 hectares (60 acres) Botanic Garden
has excellent views of the harbour and an incredible collection
of exotic and native plants, orchids and ferns. Open daily:

Sydney Aquarium (Exhibition)

The spectacular aquarium was designed to give visitors the
sensation of being underwater with the fish and marine mammals.
Displays include seals, sharks, crocodiles and turtles.

Sydney Opera House (Theatre)

Designed in the1950s to echo the myriad sailboats on the
harbour, the Opera House was not completed until1973. With
four auditoria, it hosts a variety of cultural events throughout
the year as well as guided tours every 30 to 45 minutes.

Sydney Tower (Scenic)

Built in 1981 and reaching a height of 305 metres (1000
feet), the AMP Centrepoint Tower is the tallest building
on the continent with the highest observation level in the
Southern Hemisphere. The panoramic views from either the
observation deck or the revolving restaurant can stretch
to the Blue Mountains 100 kilometres (62 miles) away. Open
daily: 9:30 am to 9:30 pm; Sundays and public holidays 10:30
am to 6:30 pm.
Taronga Zoo (Exhibition)

Commanding a magnificent hilltop view over the harbour and
city, Taronga Zoo is home to indigenous as well as other
birds and mammals from around the world. Open daily: 9:00
am to 5:00 pm
Darling Harbour (Leisure)
Take the monorail to Harbourside, Sydney
Edged by a palm-fringed promenade, Darling Harbour is an
area of restored dockland wharf around Cockle Bay. Best
viewed from the water or the monorail, it is home to the
Aquarium, the Maritime and Powerhouse museums and the Panasonic
IMAX Theatre.
Sydney Harbour Bridge (Building)
Sydney Harbour
Built in the 1930s, the Bridge spans the narrowest section
of the harbour linking the northern beaches and suburbs
with the city and providing one of Sydney's most enduring
images.
Bondi Beach (Leisure)
Campbell Parade, Bondi, Sydney
Probably the best-known beach in the world, the one and
a third kilometre (one mile) long Bondi Beach is the closest
to the city centre and one of the best places to witness
Australian beach culture.
Balmoral Beach (Leisure)
Raglan Street, Mosman, Sydney
Located on the Middle Harbour inlet, and surrounded by bush,
Balmoral is one of the oldest and most popular of the harbour
beaches. It has retained many late nineteenth and early
twentieth century flourishes, with a Bathers' Pavilion (now
a restaurant), boardwalk, seawater pool and elegant footbridge.

Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush Bay was built as one of the
two main venues for the 2000 Olympic Games (the Sydney Harbour
Zone at Darling Harbour being the other). Originally the site
of the Sydney Showground, the venue is now home to the largest
ever outdoor Olympic stadium with 110,000 seats.
