Long term/permanent accomadation Normally the accomdation is double bed room flats, provided with water facilities (Not a drinking water) - for only bathing and washing, with the gas connection.
Approximate cost for double bedroom house 1400 DHS.Sharing the accomadation with another family or a bachelor is common.

Shopping There are many electronic shops. Jumbo Electronics is fully dealing with the Sony Music systems. There are dealers for AIWA , JVC, Panasonic
There are lot of budget jobs - 2DHS.5 to 10 DHS, 10 to 20DHS
Lullu Centre is big and reasonable in price.The price is cheaper in Discount center but it is far away from the city.
Mobile phones are available in plentry.But there is no international International guarantee.It is also said that used phones are sold as new just replacing the casing.Should be careful in buying.

Emergency In the event of accident you can contact the Anjad (The Special Branch of the Traffic Police) on +971 (6) 5512222. The Anjad patrol the streets to assist the public in all traffic related and security matters.

Transport You can travel anywhere inside Sharjah in taxi for 5DHS .Strictly only only 4 people are allowed. .
Apart from taxis there is no public transport system. Driving is on the right hand side of the road. Third party insurance is compulsory. The penalty for drinking and driving is severe.
Dos and Don'ts 1. Do not wear beach clothes, sleeveless or low cut tops and shorts in public - only at the beach or private clubs.
2. Embracing in public is not acceptable behavior.
3. Women should not first offer their hand for a handshake, but if offered, should shake hands gently.
4. Never take photographs of local citizens, especially women, without asking permission.
5. During the Holy Month of Ramadan, absolutely no eating, drinking or smoking are allowed in public during daylight hours. Meals will be served in the hotel areas or your hotel room
Currency The UAE Dirham is divided into 100 fils. Coins include Dhs.1, 50 fils, 25 fils, 10 fils and 5 fils. The latter two are rarely used. Notes are of Dhs. 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 denominations

Medical facility You have a choice of public and private hospitals, clinics, and individual practitioners to choose from.
