Q.

When there is only one God, why so many incarnations, so many forms?

The Ultimate is One. We are all its children. Siva Purana says, ‘He is One, He is Many’. ‘He does not have one form, one name, we eulogize Him with several thousand names’. All other forms are deities, not God. Rama, Jesus, Buddha, Krishna, are human models who exemplified that it is possible to lead such a noble human life that will secure a divine place in Heaven. God is not bound by anything and is beyond anyone’s comprehension. Other religions have also accepted the existence of deities. Since these have not been debated, people have misunderstood that only Hinduism has a number of deities and they do not figure in other religions.
