Q.

How to love all creatures as God’s children?

Assume a lady has 500 dresses. Even if she wears three sets of dresses a day, how many sarees can she really use? A few weeks later, in a fit of spring cleaning the house, she is bound to give away the dress to her maid servant, or gift some dresses to her friends or relatives. Only when you have something in excess of your need for it, will you be able to give away. If you yourself are in need of something, how can you give it away? Paucity of resources is a prime reason for selfishness. Once you grow beyond needs, you will nurture the thought to ‘give unto others’. That is the foundation for Love. Make an attempt to go beyond needs, gradually and naturally.

We consume so many unnecessary food items. We are not manual labourers; our work is more intellect-oriented. Those who do intellectual work need not eat the same quantity or type of food as manual labourers need? That excess food can be spared to someone who is in need of it. But people are not interested. They eat large quantities in haste and land up searching around for a digestive medicine. Grow mellowed enough to think of sharing what you can with others.

Temple prasadam is ‘prasadam’ regardless of the quantity. It is a question of your thought. Regardless of whether you light a single lamp or several lamps in the temple, what you light is still a lamp. Regardless of whether you perform abhishekham to the idol with one litre of milk or several litres of milk, it is still abhishekham. At best you can scout around proudly telling everyone, ‘I did abhishekham with so many litres of milk’. What does God gain from that? Even if you perform abhishekham with ocean quantity of milk, it is still a trifle as far as God is concerned, is not it?

So learn to transform your thoughts, lessen your needs and share what you can with others, and you will start tasting the nectar of love. And then you will evolve into Divinity.

Love springs from within. No one can teach anyone ‘love’. It is an inherent quality in every one of us.
