Those who are on the spiritual path must visit temples. Though it is true that God is Omnipresent and you can access Him from wherever you are, it is still good to visit temples. Temple worship is a ladder that Hinduism - - Sanatana Dharma has devised, to lead you further on the spiritual quest. That ladder needs to exist for the others who will follow later on, and therefore we need to continue the process of worshipping at temples. Divinity has established Its Presence in temples; therefore visit them. Each can partake of the Divine Power based on his or her capacity.

Just as you continue reading books to enhance your knowledge, you must continue visiting temples to augment your spiritual power. Simple logic.

Visit with faith; visit with love. Think of the idol as a manifestation of the Living Supreme Force. Let your heart be mellowed with love, Tears will fetch you the lord. Be filled with love, like Kannappa Nayanar who was prepared to replace the Sivalinga’s bleeding eyes with his own. If you seek with true love, you can very easily attain the Lord, because He is a mountain that can be conquered with love, and only with love.
