Q. Please explain 'Aham Brahmasmi. Tattvamasi'

I am God. So are you. We are all Gods in the making.

What is coffee? You take a glass. Take decoction, add some milk and sugar – you get coffee. Now you are the glass. You are the container. Now you have to add all the ingredients. Rama represents righteousness. ‘Sri Rama Vigrahavan Dharma’ Rama epitomized Dharma. So, fill the glass (you) with the quality of Dharma represented by Rama. Krishna – a single person, who played havoc in the world with his intelligence, astuteness. So, add intelligence to the glass. Dharma of Rama, Intelligence of Krishna, Compassion of Buddha, Sacrifice of Jesus and mix it. You are God. All these ingredients are available within you. It will not cost a penny. Love – you need not borrow from any one. The problem now is you are unable to bring it out. You hate people. Opposite of late is hate. You stop hating, you will end up in love. Accept people as they are.

What is love then? Selflessness. What is self? Lovelessness. If you go beyond selfishness, you become love. Love is selflessness and self is lovelessness. So, if you have to love, you have to become unselfish. That is the second human value. First human value is love, non-hatred. Second is unselfishness.

Then, control your anger. You spoil so many relationships because of your anger. To put an end to anger, you need not do anything. You have to just stop being angry. That is all. You can do it effortlessly if only you have the will.

Be impartial. Look at the rain. It pours on all the people equally. Become like the rain. Look at air. It breezes its way into everyone’s nostrils. It never says it will not come to you. Like that, you become totally impartial without any discrimination. Start helping the society without any trace of partiality. You become like the sun and rain. A river will not say that you cannot take bath, only that man can take bath. It allows everyone to take bath. Gangotri and Yamunotri are so pure at the source, from where they start flowing. Though you stuff down all the drainage and wash your cattle in those rivers, they still flow along their course. They do not stop in anger. They do not lose their nobility. Gangotri courses its way through Benares and merges into the Bay of Bengal off Hugli. That is what you too need to do. Even if the whole society spits on your face, even if the entire world is against you, does not accept you, you flow along your way, unhindered by anyone and not hurting or harming anyone. The river of your life should provide water for agriculture, water for drinking, electricity should be generated out of your effort. The drainages and garbage of idle talks and brickbats that society so willingly throws on you, must not affect you. Follow the way that the Ganges has shown.

What is generally asked of any person? What is your true nature? Nature is your true nature. You become like the breeze, you become like the rain, you become like the Ganges. That is your nature. That is why in this quotation in Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’– All the elements were so mixed up in him, Nature itself will rise up and say ‘Here is a man’. If you can live in communion with nature, following just nature, helping others whether others appreciate you or not, you are divine. That is another human value I can give you. You can become more loving and more caring. You can stop hating and you can control anger. You can become unselfish. Imbibe the divine qualities that Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Buddha etc embodied. You need not seek God. God is within you. All the thoughts your mind entertains are given by HIM.
