Everyone in this world likes to be blessed. Blessings
may be from humans or heavenly God. If we are good
to the fellow-humans, we are blessed with their
materialistic gifts which will last for few months
or years. But blessings from God are eternal and
will last forever. He wants us to strive to be like
him in order to acquire the blessings he has promised.
Blessings from God are not only materialistic but
are eternal.
How can we acquire the
blessings promised by God?
In the following few verses Jesus says how we
will be blessed and on what basis. To acquire each
and every blessing we should follow a command and
practice it. The verses are straightforward and
list the blessings, which we get when we follow
the command.
Matthew 5
2 Jesus began to teach them, saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be
comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the
earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown
mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see
God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be
called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because
of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute
you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you
because of me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward
in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the
prophets who were before you.
God wants us to be humble, meek, righteous, peace
loving and pure at heart. This doesn’t mean that
if we are good and if we follow God’s commandments
then we will not face any difficulties in this world.
God himself came as son of man and faced all the
troubles and difficulties of this world like any
other human beings. But in spite of all the troubles
we can lead a happy and peaceful life and shall
inherit the life eternal in heaven with our heavenly
father. This is the blessing given to us by God
if we follow his commands. May the Almighty help
us to be righteous and pure at heart and shower
his Blessings upon us now and forever.
