Twelve golden rules for Bringing up children (2)
- Nirmaladoss

continuation....

The next golden rule is to correct them positively. There was a teacher who asked his student his name. The child replied "dont joe".The teacher asked the child what the dont means, the child replied that his mother had always called him like that. His mother used to always tell his child "dont Joe,dont do that".What we say to the child will easily be engraved in the child's mind.Let us not not give them negative remarks. There are a lot of grown-ups who still remember the remarks made by their parents in the negative sense. If the child makes a mistsake, let us correct them in a positive way.Let us avoid using abusive language which will make them more disheartened. Our child will definitely be tuned to our taste,if we take interest and approach them in a positive way.

The next step is to be a good role-model to the children. The child starts the lesson from us.They reflect what they see.Parents should be a good role-model to them because they tend to imitate us to the society outside.A child of an angry parent has the tendency to develop the character of anger;likewise,a child of a drunkard develops the tendency to believe that what his father does is right. We shape their character and future,so let us be a good role-model to them.

The next step is to remember that we were also a child once.We have to understand the nature of children.Let us step into their shoes, when we judge things of them.

The next rule is to be a good friend to them.Everyone likes a good friend because freinds are people of trust and understanding. The children will openly speak out the problems if we are good friends to them and it is more easier to solve the problems in this way. They like us to understand,to speak to them, and to have fun with them.So let us inbuild a friendly quality within us.

The next step is to develop the quality of co-responsibility towards the society, family, and to the educational institution. We should teach them responsablities at an early age.A girl need not wait till her marriage to learn the cooking;likewise, it is necessary for a boy to participate in a house-hold works. It is here in India where boys are petted to the extent that they are not even allowed to carry the plates that they have eaten to the kitchen. Some schools complain that stout grown-up boys still have their ayas at the back to carry their school bags.If we dont teach them to do little things at an early age,it will be very hard for them to do things at an later age.Let us start at an early age to teach little responsablities towards the family. They should also learn the responsablity towards the society. They should incultivate the feeling of sympathy towards the poor. This in turn will develop a helping nature in them.To start with it we should develop the sympathetic quality in the children, for that,we ourself have to have sympathy to the poor and we should express it by helping the poor now and then.We should also teach the importance of education to our children.

The next step is to develop religious tolerence. In the world where childrens are the future citizen, let us develop the quality to develop tolerance towards any religion. The daily news in India will tell us how far is the religion responsible for social evil, unless we develop the knowledge in our children, our India will still remain in the dark.Let us walk beyond the cast and creed and develop the quality of oneness in our children. As "the great hope of society is individual character."

The last and most important rule is to develop the knowledge of Supreme Being. There is always a power beyond our knowledge,a power beyond ourself. So let our children walk in the path of light with the knowledge of it.

Let us as parents take the responsibility to bring-up our children as a good citizen, and a good child to the society."Home is where heart is",so let us make the home a happy place to live with our beautiful children.
